Sen. Byron Dorgan says the parent company of the JLG Industries, Inc., plant in Oakes is taking another look at plans to close it.

Dorgan, D-N.D., said JLG's parent company, Oshkosh Corp., has a new military contract totaling more than $1 billion. He said the company's CEO, Robert Bohn, has agreed to take a "very serious look" at keeping the Oakes plant open.

Dorgan said Wednesday that Bohn told him he should be able to report back to Dorgan within 10 days.

The Oakes plant makes aerial work platform lifts for commercial and military use. JLG announced last month that the plant would shut down by September with some of its 61 jobs moved to other states.

The contract to Wisconsin-based Oshkosh is for mine-resistant vehicles. Oshkosh has about 12,000 employees worldwide. JLG is based in McConnellsburg, Pa.
