GRAND FORKS (AP) - Grand Forks officials say an early morning fire in an apartment building forced 35 residents to leave their homes and caused about $140,000 in damage. No one was hurt.
A statement from the fire department said the fire at the Ryan House apparently was caused by a pan of oil that was left on the stove to overheat.
The fire was reported shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday. Officials said the building's occupants were bused to a senior citizens center and the building's automatic sprinkler system held the fire in check.
Officials said fire damage was limited to the kitchen area of one apartment, with water damage to other parts of the building.
