MINOT (AP) - Firefighters in Minot continue to check for the remnants of two major weekend fires just outside the city.
Minot rural Fire Chief Rex Weltikol said workers spent Monday repairing trucks and extinguishing a couple of hot spots.
"Some of these trees are probably burning on the inside, and we can't even see it," he said. "We still have a burn ban going, and we extended that an extra 30 days."
Firefighters also were assessing the extent of the damage from Saturday's fires at the East Side Estates subdivision, a few miles east of Minot, and the Trestle Valley subdivision just to the west.
No one was hurt in the fires.
The area got cooler temperatures Monday but badly needed rain slipped by.
Burke County authorities identified a firefighter who was flown to a Minnesota burn center with injuries after battling a blaze that burned nearly 1,500 acres near Columbus.
The sheriff's office said Mitchell Strom, 28, of Columbus, suffered burns to his face and extremities.
Burke County Sheriff Barry Jager said the fire started on Saturday afternoon when a torch was used to cut a swather to fit on a trailer. Jager said Cory Klitzke, 33, of Stanley, was cited for violating Burke County's burn ban. The violation carries a $500 fine.
More than 30 of North Dakota's 53 counties have banned outdoor burning.
