RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A South Dakota National Guard unit based in Rapid City has been sent to Texas to help with efforts to clean up from Hurricane Ike.
The 82nd Civil Support Team, which was certified in July 2007, was sent to help Texas authorities with hazardous materials that washed ashore along the Texas coast or were displaced inland and advise civilian authorities on proper disposal.
Seventeen members from the unit, along with five members from the North Dakota National Guard, were sent to help for two weeks.
