Someone who's fishing from shore in North Dakota is restricted to using two poles at once. A Dickinson lawmaker says the limit should be increased to four poles.

Rep. Shirley Meyer says ice fishermen are allowed to have four lines in the water at once. She says people who are fishing from shore during the summer should get the same treatment.

Meyer says she introduced the legislation at the request of a constituent. Meyer herself doesn't fish, and she jokes that she couldn't handle two lines.

North Dakota Game and Fish Department fisheries chief Greg Power says the two-line limit is meant to prevent overcrowding on limited shoreline fishing space.

Power predicts the bill will draw opposition. It hasn't been scheduled for a hearing.

The bill is HB1248.
