Tear down the Statue of Liberty

President Barack Obama wants to make nearly one million illegals legal. I’m sure he wants more.

Why stop there? Why not do as that outdated Statue of Liberty says? Let everybody in. It has outlived its usefulness and should have been torn down at least 50 years ago, but still stands there, inviting the world.

Why not do away with borders completely? Let in all of South America ... everybody. We won’t be able to turn around, but maybe the ACLU will be happy. There won’t be any food for them. All the farmland will be covered over with housing. But Obama is sure to be elected president, maybe even king. And that’s what’s important, right?

Yes, but the children of the illegals will want an education, too, making colleges more crowded and harder to get into. After all, they aren't coming here to do the manual work forever. More will need to come into the country to satisfy the jobs the next generation no longer wants to do. The argument that this is all necessary is ridiculous. In a single afternoon NPR broadcast conflicting stories: one stating much of the unemployment problem in the country was due to a decrease in the home construction market and later another story stated that many illegals are needed to be employed in construction. What? Letting in wave after wave of people is not sustainable.

The jobs being filled by the illegal workers will only last for one generation of that group. They have no intention of having their children do that work, either. Which means an endless cycle of "requiring" more illegals every generation do so manual labor. No one country can absorb an infinite number of people, just as no lifeboat can accommodate and entire shipload. Sorry, but that's just reality.

If Americans were willing to work for virtually nothing, that would solve this issue. Then the business criminals could get their slave labor from "legal" immigrants (all of us), rather than illegals.

Didn't I make myself clear enough? The reinstatement of slavery, which by the way will happen if Republicans get their way, would include all races. It would be equal opportunity slavery - whites, blacks, native Americans, Hispanics, etc. There would be no discrimination on the basis of race, only class.

Question: Should we allow the whole world to come to America? Can America sustain over 6 billion people? If not, where do we draw the line? We are having a hard time sustaining the 311 million people we have. What number of immigrants can we allow? If it goes above that number what should we do? The silly thing is, we do allow people to come to our country, and we limit that number so to protect our economy. Those that come here illegally circumvent the number of people that we allow. If we allow everybody, what happens? What is the cut-off? How do you enforce the cut-off?

Some say, well, they are only taking jobs other Americans won't do. That's not true. They compete directly with high school drop-outs and unskilled Americans. I find it a little bit racist to say that the illegals are perfect for the "jobs that nobody wants." In essence, they are saying that 3rd world immigrants are perfect for the less than desirable jobs. I don't know about that, since illegals do more than just pick fruit and vegetables, something the left stereotypes. If you support illegals with that mindset, you are merely propagating the use of 3rd world immigrants as cheap labor to reduce costs. If you mean to give them wages in line with legal workers, then you surely are forcing the unskilled American poor out of jobs.

Illegal immigrants work in construction, drive trucks, wash dishes, cook, do maid/butler services, lawn-care, drive taxis, janitorial, farm-hands, work in restaurants and bars, work in grocery stores, work in department stores, work in apparel industries, and even do skilled labor requiring college degrees. They don't just pick vegetables.

Reagan gave amnesty to 3 million illegal immigrants. Far more than Obama. However, nothing was done to shore up the borders. We cannot continue down this path of granting amnesty every generation. Sooner or later, we will become saturated. Much can be done by verifying the legality of workers. I-9 has curbed illegal employment, however, loopholes must still be closed.

As far as illegal immigration, it doesn't affect me much. I'm skilled and educated. Illegal immigration only hurts our poor and less educated.

Just think, if Bush has actually done anything about illegal immigration, we wouldn't be having this discussion. But Bush (and his Republican rubber stampers in congress) need illegal immigration so their business criminal friends have the slave labor they need to turn max profit.

The "Democrat" party? Is that a new party? I've heard of the "Democratic" party, but not the "Democrat" party. I guess if there is a new party, it would make sense to try to shore up some votes.

In case you right wingers don't know it, the illegal immigration is what keeps capitalism going. Capitalism needs slave labor to exist. The illegals are getting hired by business criminals because the business criminals need slave labor to turn maximum profit. If they had to pay actual Americans an actual wage, they wouldn't make enough profit.

This is the same reason companies are sending jobs to China - they need slave labor to turn a large enough profit. It's not possible to pay real Americans a real wage for real work anymore. It doesn't make the corporate owners rich enough.

The solution is to simply reinstate slavery and force the working class to work for free. That would solve both the immigration and the unemployment problem.

I agree that it is time to close the borders and let Americans find jobs first. If they won't take those jobs then it is their own fault. The biggest hinderance to immigration reform (legal or illegal) is the business owners who hire these people because they work for much less if we started prosecuting those people as well as the illegals then we could make some progress in the illegal immigration problem.

Our panderer-in-chief will do all he can to get the vote of as many undocumented aliens as possible. I can't wait to see the next law he chooses to not enforce. If some of the closely contested states in the presidential race are able to get voter id laws implemented like they want he may just legalize all undocumented. Game over.

clark kent........Roughly 6.1 million unauthorized Mexican immigrants were living in the U.S. last year, down from a peak of nearly 7 million in 2007, according to the Pew Hispanic Center study released Monday. It was the biggest sustained drop in modern history, believed to be surpassed in scale only by losses in the Mexican-born U.S. population during the Great Depression....http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57419334/illegal-mexican-immigrant-numbers-down-as-more-migrate-back-to-mexico/. Where do you get you numbers from!!

100+ million illegal and legal immigrants since the 60's. 100,000 + per month right now.

Traffic in major cities is at gridlock twice per day.
Americans who need a job compete with foreigners for the same job opening.

    Time for an immigration moratorium
