As a Catholic, I am very concerned about Pope Francis taking sides on the political and divisive global warming debate. There is a consensus by environmentalists that man is the cause of global warming, but political consensus is not science. Many dissenting scientists have not been invited to participate and share their alternate opinions.
There are several websites from which one can gain an appreciation that many scientists do disagree with the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. I have reviewed the following: climate4you.com; friendsofscience.org; longrangeweather.com; iceagenow.com; c02science.org; notrickszone.com; wattsupwiththat.com; populartechnology.net; climateaudit.org; climatechangeissues.com; climatestore.com; and petitionproject.org.
Variations in solar activity hitting the Earth's surface, not C02, has been the main cause of global warming and cooling for millions of years. Solar activity was not a main component of the computer model used by the IPCC. Carbon dioxide was 10 times higher 450 million to 500 million years ago. Despite that, there is good evidence for an ice age at that time. As the Earth has cyclically warmed in the past eons, the associated rise in C02 has lagged behind (not preceded) the temperature rise.
The IPCC has predicted a very rapid and dire increase in global temperature, "the hockey stick." Its computer model has been incorrect because "the hockey stick" has not happened.
Two other pertinent articles are: "The claim of 97% consensus on global warming does not stand up" in The Guardian, June 6, 2014, and "Why Kerry is flat wrong on climate change" in the Wall Street Journal, Feb. 17, 2014.
Science continually makes new discoveries. Politicians are pushing for radical changes in our way of life despite the fact that the science is not settled on global warming.
