ELGIN - Lorraine R. Laub, 89, Elgin, passed from this life on June 29, 2009, at Jacobson Memorial Hospital, Elgin. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday, July 3, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elgin, with the Rev. Wayne Rouse officiating. Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Heil.
A family service will be held at 6 p.m. MDT Thursday at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Elgin.
Special music will be provided by Vernon Glaesemann. Honorary casketbearers are Lorraine's granddaughters, Nancy Finck Garboden, Becky Nordin Guinn, Jean Nordin Evans, Brandy Johnson, Stacey Johnson, Jenney Laub Schatz, Jane Laub, Jess Laub, Trisha Laub, Misty Craven Guerrero, and Tiffany Craven Willard. Serving as active casketbearers are Brian Finck, Steven Finck, Mike Nordin, Clarence Laub III, Casey Laub, Jalen Schatz.
Lorraine Rebecca Diehl was born Jan. 19, 1920, in Carson. She was the youngest of nine children born to Henry and Fredericka (Reister) Diehl. She grew up on a farm west of Carson and graduated from Carson High School in 1939. Lorraine was united in marriage to Clarence Laub Sr. on June 9, 1940, at Carson. Together, they farmed and ranched in the Heil and surrounding areas.
Lorraine worked at Elgin Cleaners, Coast to Coast and Jacobson Memorial Hospital and Care Center until retiring in 1983. Her husband passed away on March 7, 2001.
She enjoyed visiting family and friends, gardening, flowers, knitting and making quilts and afghans for her family.
Surviving family members include six daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Charles Finck, Dickinson, Janet Laub, Reno, Nev., Jo Ann and Randy Craven, Augusta, Kan., Eldean Laub Wikan and Thomas Wikan, Woodinville, Wash., Elaine and Cyrous Abedi, Orange, Va., and Edith and Dale Johnson, Walla Walla, Wash.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clarence Jr. and Sandi Laub, Elgin, and Perry and Brenda Laub, Valley City; and 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Jane in 1958; one son-in-law, James Nordin; four brothers, Theodore, Henry, Calvin and Ruben Diehl; four sisters, Sarah Gruebele Kranich, Ida Zeller, Clara Zeller Okken Schatz and Ardella Tecker.
