It is with great sadness that the family of Katherine "Katie" Rohrich, Zeeland, announces her passing on March 1, 2018, at Wishek Community Hospital, at the age of 90 years.
Katherine (Schumacher) Rohrich was born July 23, 1927, in rural McIntosh County. She was the youngest of 10 children of the late Ben and Elizabeth (Klein) Schumacher. Katherine married Claude Rohrich on Oct. 4, 1949, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Zeeland. Claude and Katherine settled on a farmstead northeast of Zeeland in March of 1950, where they raised their three sons. Katherine was an active part of their farm and dairy and her family will always remember her unfailing work ethic. Claude and Katherine resided on the farm until May of 1992 at which time they moved into Zeeland.
Katherine and Claude were married for 69 years and the family recently celebrated Katherine’s 90th birthday. The family will always cherish the fond memories of Katherine, a wife, mother, and grandmother who was the cornerstone of the Rohrich family and served as a tremendous role model. Katherine will be remembered by her devoted faith in God, faithful commitment to her husband, Claude, and her unconditional love for her family.
Katherine is survived by her husband, Claude and their children, Carroll (Joyce) Rohrich, San Tan Valley, Ariz., Thomas (Mary) Rohrich, Zeeland, Dr. Rod Rohrich (Dr. Diane Gibby), Dallas; seven grandchildren, Bruce (Kari) Rohrich, Maple Grove, Minn., Mark (Jenny) Rohrich, Ashley, Allan (Becky) Rohrich, Zeeland, Charissa (Greg) Eaton, Winona, Minn., Erica (Bo) Carlson, Windsor, Colo., Taylor Rohrich and Rachel Rohrich, Dallas; 11 great-grandchildren, Katie, Caroline and Anna Rohrich, Matthew, Grace and Nathan Rohrich, Levi Rohrich, Mac and Mariska Eaton, Oskar and Gunnar Carlson.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Elizabeth Schumacher; her nine siblings, Paul, Magdalena, Elizabeth, Anton, Bernard, Sebastian, Michael, John, Joseph; and granddaughter, Jennifer Rohrich.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Zeeland. Following the visitation, a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.
A holy Mass will be held for Katherine at 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Zeeland, with Fr. Wenceslaus Katanga officiating. Katherine will be buried at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church Cemetery.
