A funeral service for Isadore Krein, 97, Glen Ullin, will be held at 10 a.m. CST Saturday, Feb. 10, at Evangelical Congregational Church in Glen Ullin, with Deacon Sherrill Ungerecht officiating. Burial will take place in the Methodist Cemetery in Hebron.
Visitation for Isadore will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Isadore, or “Izzy” as he was known as, passed away Feb. 7, 2018, at Sanford Health in Bismarck.
Isadore was born Nov. 10, 1920, in Antelope, the son of John and Mary (Koch) Krein. He grew up and attended country school at Antelope. Isadore married Rose Swoboda on Sept. 25, 1952. The couple was blessed with two sons, Kenneth (Gloria), and Kelly (Renie), four granddaughters, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Isadore and Rose farmed for a couple years before becoming co-owners of the Sweet Shop Restaurant in Hebron for three years. After that they farmed for three more years before moving to Glen Ullin. They purchased the Krein Standard Service station in 1959, which was later named Krein Oil Company, Inc. Isadore and Rose owned and operated the station until they retired in 1987. During that time he also ran the bulk truck delivering gas and fuel to many farmers, sprayed trees and cattle, and also repaired hydraulic jacks. Isadore was involved in the local Lions Chapter, City Council, Park Board, the Rural Fire Department and was very active in his church. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, attending auction sales, and repairing old stationary engines.
Isadore is survived by his son, Kelly (Renie), Glen Ullin; daughter-in-law, Gloria, Mott; four granddaughters, Heather (Henry) VonBank, Mankato, Minn., Kara (Mathew) Loecken, Nowthen, Minn., Melissa (Josh) Hausauer, Otsego, Minn., and Emily Krein, Bismarck; nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Alice Neumann, Spokane, Wash., Ruth Winckler, New Salem, and Esther Swoboda, Spokane.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose; son, Kenneth; great-granddaughter, Ava Rose; all of his siblings, Art, Leo, Howard, Viola Schmidt, Adella Kitzan, and Vivian Miller; and many sisters and brothers-in-law.
