Ida was born May 21, 1915, to Carl Schutz and Katherine Schatz, approximately 12 miles north of Burt, on the farm. She was one of 15 children; there were nine girls and six boys. Two died as infants.
She was educated in a country school a couple miles from home until the eighth grade. Then, she worked various domestic jobs in Mott, Burt and Carson.
Ida married Rubin Zimmerman on Sept. 18, 1941. They lived with family for a short time before moving southeast of Carson, where they farmed and raised a family including children Harold, Edmund, Elsie, Norman, and Lyle. With assistance from Lyle, Ida had the great joy of living on the farm until only weeks before her death.
She loved her family and the Lord, and spent countless hours in the garden. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and was a self-taught piano player who loved to play the piano and sing. Very artistic, she sewed her own clothing and clothing for her children and grandchildren out of scrap material, and also hooked fancy rugs. In her last years, she loved to color in adult coloring books.
Ida will be deeply missed by her husband, Rubin; sons Harold (Sheila) Zimmerman, Edmund (Linda) Zimmerman, Norman (Janice) Zimmerman, and Lyle (Susie) Zimmerman; daughter Elsie Klein, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by parents Carl and Katherine Schutz; and brothers, Art, Albert, Theophield, Carl, Edmund and Harold; and sisters Bertha, Gertrude, Martha, Edna, Esther, Leah, Elsie and Ruth.
