The funeral for Herbert O. Wiest, Wishek, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Zion Lutheran Church, Zeeland. Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. with a devotional service at 7 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek. Burial will be at St. Andrews Lutheran Cemetery, Zeeland.
Herbert Otto Wiest, son of Jacob H. and Eva (Wolf) Wiest, was born Nov. 15, 1926, on the family farmstead in rural Zeeland. He grew up and attended rural school in Zeeland. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951 and served through 1953, during the Korean War. Because he was fluent in the German language, he was stationed in Germany. Herbert attended vo tech school in Fargo. Herbert was united in marriage to Arlia Meidinger on Feb. 16, 1954, at Zeeland. They farmed on the family homestead in the Zeeland area. They retired in 2006 and moved into Wishek. Herbert served on the Kem Electric Board as treasurer and secretary for 16 years. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Zeeland, where he served on the church council and was the Sunday school superintendent.
Herbert died Feb. 3, 2018, at the Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek. He was 91 years old.
Herbert is survived by his wife, Arlia, Wishek; four sons, Richard (Karen) Wiest, Wishek, Erwin Wiest, Eureka, S.D., Herbert Wiest Jr., Woodstock, Ill., and Rodney (Tina) Wiest, Zeeland; one sister, Werna Deile, Wishek; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Irvin, Herman, and Julius; two sisters, Hertha and an infant sister.
