Benava Hostetter

Benava Jane Hostetter, 78, Mandan, went to be with the Lord Nov. 1, 2017, after a brief illness. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, at the Church of St. Joseph, Mandan, with the Father Shane Campbell officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, at Bismarck Funeral Home, with a prayer vigil at 6 p.m.

Benava “Jane” was born July 18, 1939, to The Rev. Harold A. Trout and Sarah (Jane) Thompson Trout in Gordon, Neb. She married Delbert “Del” Hostetter on Sept. 12, 1961, in Britton, S.D. They had three children.

She attended Presentation School of Nursing in Aberdeen, S.D., graduating in 1961. She practiced as a Registered Nurse in South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana. She worked for over 30 years at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.

The majority of her adult life was spent in the Gallatin Valley of Montana. There, she and Del raised their children and welcomed their grandchildren. After the children were grown, she and Del lived in Manhattan, Mont., often visiting their children in Wisconsin, Washington, and North Dakota.

In 2006, they moved to Mandan to be near their children and youngest grandchildren.

Jane was a kind, quiet, gentle woman who cared for those around her. She was encouraging, accepting, and supportive of others. She mentored people in their lives and faith. Jane had a delightful sense of humor and was ready with a smile.

Jane is survived by her three children, Jeff (Kim), Bismarck, Mark, Aberdeen, and Nancy, Mandan. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Hallie (Ben) Echols, Bozeman, Mont., Hannah Hostetter, Billings, Mont., Creed Hostetter, Minneapolis, and Tanner, Mollie, and Maggie Hostetter, Bismarck; and her great-grandchildren, William, Samuel, and Marian Echols. She is also survived by her sister, Bonnie Johnson, Vancouver, Wash.; her nieces; as well as a large extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert; and her parents.

Jane’s family is exceptionally grateful for the staff of CHI St. Alexius Medical Center for their care.

Memorials may be made to Central Dakota Humane Society.
