Young bull moose still in vicinity

Bismarck’s moose is now Mandan’s moose.

The young bull moose that created a stir in Bismarck last week has apparently forded the Missouri River and Friday morning was taking a nap on Francis Fleck’s lawn.

Fleck says he has lived north of Interstate 94 about one-half mile off of N.D. Highway 1806 for the past 13 years and this is a first for him.

“I’ve never seen a moose in the wild before,” Fleck said. And even a young moose is an impressive animal, he said.

“I walked up to probably 25 yards of him and took some pictures with my camera phone,” Fleck said. He said the moose’s shoulder came up to his eye level.

Fleck said the moose showed up on his property Friday morning, browsed on a few branches then laid down on his lawn, closed his eyes and went to sleep.
