For the first time in more than a decade, a sailboat regatta returns to Lake Sakakawea on Aug. 24.

The event will be headquartered at Fort Stevenson State Park’s de Trobriand Bay with races starting at noon.

Spectators will have a good view of the event from the guardhouse lawn, and the park will also be having its annual beach party later with activities beginning at 5 p.m. Billy D and the Crystals will be providing dance music from 7:30 p.m. until midnight.

Information about the Fort Stevenson Regatta, including entering the event, can be found online at www.dycracing.com.

There will be a captains’ meeting at 9 a.m. on Aug. 23, and a race clinic at 7:30 p.m. at the de Trobriand Marina gathering hall. There will be some transient slip rentals available for the weekend. Contact the park for information and prices.

For details, call the park office at 701-337-5576 or email fssp@nd.gov. Fort Stevenson State Park is located south of Garrison.
