Mandan police remind the public that the city gets busy on the Fourth of July.
Main Street will be closed at 7:45 a.m. and will remain closed until the parade is over. Parking is prohibited on Main Street after 1 a.m., and vehicles parked along the street after that will be ticketed and towed.
Events on Main Street begin with the annual road race at 8 a.m., followed by street festival events beginning at 8:15 a.m., the "diva dash stiletto run" at 9 a.m., the stereo car club broadcast and world's largest Macarena dance, both at 9:15 a.m., the classic car parade at 10 a.m. and the grand parade at 10:30 a.m.
Traffic heading into Mandan will be detoured from 7:45 a.m. until the parade is over, and north-south traffic flow will be limited and congested. There also is construction on the northern part of Sunset Drive. Police ask people to plan ahead and try to complete travel plans through Mandan before Main Street is closed.
Police advised people to take advantage of free busing to the Independence Day festivities. Buses will run continuously from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to various locations downtown. People can get on the buses at the parking lots of Mandan Middle School, Bank of North Dakota, Bismarck Elks and the Bismarck State College Library.
