A benefit concert will be held at a church in Mandan next week to help the family of a 3-year-old boy diagnosed with neurofibromatosis and a brain tumor.

Cooper Peterson was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis — a disease that affects the nervous system and causes tumors to grow — in 2015, when he was 11 months old. He was also diagnosed with a bilateral optic glioma, which is a brain tumor on his optic nerve. Cooper is blind due to the tumor.

He has undergone months of chemotherapy and was part of an international drug trial at the University of Minnesota. He's had multiple brain surgeries, and, in June, will start a new chemotherapy treatment.

To help with his family's mounting medical bills, a freewill benefit concert will be held at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 at Mandan United Methodist Church, 610 12th St. N.W.
