The Federal and State Safe Drinking Water Act regulations require community public water systems to take many actions to protect source water and provide safe drinking water.

In 2008, a number of water operators fully complied with the requirements based on the type of water used, the size of the community and the type of treatments applied. These operators have been presented with a "Certificate of Compliance" by the North Dakota Department of Health.

A letter of commendation also has been sent to their respective city council, board of directors or system owner recognizing their efforts.

The following local operators have been recognized for their work:

Rhonda Brunmeier, Apple Creek Court;, Charles Jaszkowiak, city of Bismarck; Rob Dickson, city of Lincoln; Terry Hutslar, city of Wilton; Dale Olson, city of Wing; Alfred Buchholz, Country Club Co-op; Bruce Meyers, Missouri River Correctional Center; Gerard Gernand, South Central Regional Water District; Gerard Gernand, South Central Rwd North Burleigh; and Douglas M. Bondley, University of Mary.
