Bob Wefald, former North Dakota Attorney General, former District Court Judge and retired U.S. Navy Captain, will kickoff the 2017-18 season of the Bismarck Historical Society's Historic Lecture Series with a presentation on the naval ship, City of Bismarck.

The lecture will include slides and a brief video about the new ship, which is completing construction and testing at the Austal USA shipyard in Mobile, Ala. Though owned and operated by the Navy's Military Sealift Command, the ship will be crewed and operated by civilian mariners. It is not a warship; rather it is designed to transport about 312 troops and their equipment at a high speed for a distance of about 1,200 miles to a port controlled by the U.S. or U.S. allies.

The program will start at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Lecture Room A of the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library, 515 N. Fifth St. The event is open to the public, admission is free and reservations are not required.
