The North Dakota House Appropriations Committee will hear testimony Thursday on a bill that would provide $12 million to relocate the Missouri River Correctional Center in Bismarck.
There is no timetable in the bill for moving the MRCC.
The bill calls for the land to be transferred to North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department for use as a recreational area, except for the land physically occupied by the minimum security jail.
If the bill is approved, once the jail is moved to the penitentiary site the remaining land would be transferred to the parks and recreation department. There is approximately 900 acres along the Missouri River south of Fox Island involved.
The bill is House Bill 1312 and is scheduled for a 10 a.m. hearing Thursday.
