The Emter Family will kick off their 21st season of holiday music concerts Saturday with a double-header at their family theater west of Mandan.

Shows are at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Other concerts are scheduled for 2 p.m. Dec. 10, and 2 and 7 p.m. Dec. 11.

Roger Emter, patriarch of the family, said the cast includes himself and his wife, Renae, along with their four children - all original members when they began the performances in 1990.

"We have all of the original members, plus we have incorporated all of the grandchildren, nine of them in all," he said.

The concerts take place in the Emter Family Music Theater they built 12 miles west of Mandan off Interstate 94's exit 140. The theater can seat about 200 people, he said.

Emter said while the playlist includes contemporary Christmas music, this year the Emters are tweaking the list to include more traditional holiday songs.

The list of instruments played by the family is almost as extensive as the song list: four horns, four different stringed instruments, three different keyboards, assorted percussion and selections that include five accordions at the same time.

Snacks and beverages are available at the concerts as well as Emter Family CDs.
