A woman must pay nearly $20,000 for money she admitted to stealing while working at Sanford Health in Bismarck.

Nicole Bunnell, 41, of Mandan, pleaded guilty on Monday to Class B felony theft.

South Central District Judge Bruce Haskell sentenced her to three years of supervised probation and a deferred imposition of sentence, meaning the crime will be wiped from her record if she successfully completes her probation and pays her court fees, including $19,906.64 in restitution.

According to court documents, Bunnell funneled $12,300 in fraudulent returns from August to mid-September. A coworker discovered the fraudulent transactions after an audit of the hospital and saw Bunnell make the transactions on security footage.

Bunnell admitted to creating the fraudulent transactions at the hospital and took the sums of money after collecting money from the register as usual to deposit after her shift. Another coworker told police Bunnell used another employee's log-in information to make the bad transactions.
