Several vehicle-related thefts since Wednesday in Bismarck have police warning about crimes of opportunity.
Sgt. Mike Bolme said police received reports of three stolen vehicles from 8 a.m. Wednesday to 2:45 a.m. Thursday, as well as three thefts from vehicles between 9 a.m. and 6:55 p.m. Wednesday.
The latter vehicles were left unlocked with personal items inside, he said, while the stolen vehicles were unlocked with keys inside.
"Both of those kinds of crimes are about opportunity," said Bolme, adding that the daytime thefts are unusual.
One stolen vehicle and the three thefts were in the same area of Chisholm Place and Clairmont Road. An individual or group may be behind the similar thefts, said.
"It's just important for people to lock their doors," Bolme said.
