Mandan police say a man had $245 in prepaid debit cards and $950 in cash stolen from him by a woman he met on the Internet.

The 47-year-old man said he met the woman through www.backpage.com, a website commonly used by people looking for escorts. They met at an undisclosed location in Mandan, and after the woman left, the man discovered his wallet, debit cards and cash missing.

Mandan police warn that using sites like www.backpage.com or www.craigslist.com to meet dates can be dangerous.

“Do not become a victim,” the statement from the police department said.
