Bismarck Police are investigating a case of a man shot with rock salt early Sunday morning.

Police responded around 1:30 a.m. Sunday to a report of man in dark clothing asking to enter a residence on the 600 block of North Eighth Street, Sgt. Mark Buschena said.

The officer dispatched there found the residence quiet but heard a loud, slamming noise to the west on North Seventh Street.

Dispatch reportedly told the officer the man in dark clothing was trying to enter a residence on the 600 block of North Seventh Street but was shot with rock salt and fled north.

A 23-year-old Mandan man reportedly told officers he had given the man a ride to a hospital emergency room, where officers found him in the ER trauma room with a gunshot wound to his neck.

The man was later taken into the operating room for surgery, Buschena said.

No arrests have been made in the case.
