One day before his trial on felony sex charges, a judge set a change of plea for the man accused in the case.
Robert Michael Williamson, 28, has been held in jail pending $100,000 cash bond since November on two Class AA felony counts of gross sexual imposition and a Class B felony count of luring minors by computer. He's accused of having sex with a 14-year-old girl in June 2015 after contacting her via social media.
On Monday, his public defender requested his trial be canceled, and Judge James S. Hill set a change of plea for Friday morning.
Williamson was to stand trial before a jury beginning Wednesday. His Class AA charges are punishable by up to life in prison without parole if convicted, with a mandatory minimum of 20 years in prison, supervised probation and sex offender registration.
