A 51-year-old Hannah man died after apparently driving over a submerged road near Wales and trying to walk through frigid floodwater.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol said the man, who has not been identified, was found at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The patrol believes the man was northbound in a 2012 Chevrolet pickup on 99th Avenue Northeast, eight miles north of Wales, late Tuesday night when he tried to cross a portion of the road that had been washed out by rising waters earlier in the day. The patrol said the man then apparently left his partially submerged pickup to attempt to walk through the waters. The man was found dead in the water, and investigators believe unusually cold temperatures contributed to his death.
The incident remains under investigation.
