The driver who reportedly hit a young girl crossing to a bus stop Friday has been identified.

Bismarck Police Sgt. Mark Buschena said the man is 37-year old Jesse Engesser, of Bismarck. No charges have yet been filed but a report has been sent to the Bismarck city attorney for review, according to Buschena.

The 11-year-old girl was crossing to the school bus at the bus stop at 7:30 a.m. Friday near Jericho Road and Jordan Street when a vehicle struck her right abdomen with its passenger side mirror and ran over both her feet. She was taken to a hospital.

The driver, identified later that day as Engesser, reportedly exited the vehicle, yelled at the girl then drove away.

She told police the bus was stopped with its stop sign extended and lights flashing at the time she was struck.

Engesser has a criminal record, including sexual assault, DUI and theft charges since last year.
