A Bowman woman has been charged with the murder of her newborn baby.
Stephanie Jean Lindstrom, 42, gave birth in the bathroom of a Bowman home on July 23. When police arrived, the baby was found drowned in the toilet.
In an affidavit, Bowman Chief of Police Charles Headley said he was called to 208 Third Ave. S.W. in Bowman for a medical emergency. Lindstrom reported feeling "very sick" and police took her to the hospital.
When Headley entered the bathroom, he found the baby, the affidavit said. Lindstrom had been the only person in the bathroom prior to his arrival.
According to the affidavit, the state Forensic Examiner's Office determined the baby had been born alive. The cause of death was drowning.
Southwest District Judge Dann Greenwood set Lindstrom's bond at $100,000.
A preliminary hearing for the case is scheduled for Sept. 12. Murder is a Class AA felony, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole.
