A 22-year-old Bismarck woman is charged in relation to stealing a vehicle before crashing into another driver and a tree Friday morning.
Kaitlyn Bird faces felony counts of theft and reckless endangerment and misdemeanor duty in an accident involving death or injury. She is held at the Burleigh-Morton County Detention Center.
Court documents say she stole the 2008 Mercury Mountaineer from the man who was giving her a ride and had stopped for directions at a gas station on East Rosser Avenue.
Allegedly fleeing south on South Eighth Street, Bird ran a stop sign at East Bowen Avenue, and was hit by 62-year-old Larry Houn, of Kilkenny, Minn., who had the right of way.
Bird reportedly then lost control and crashed into a tree before allegedly fleeing on foot. She was arrested at Kirkwood Mall.
Houn's passengers, 87-year-old Jerome Houn and 84-year-old Ann Houn, both of Bismarck, were treated at a hospital for minor injuries.
Before she was booked in jail, Bird also was treated for injuries. She is held pending $2,500 cash bond.
