Mandan police say five Bismarck teenage boys, ages 14 to 16, are responsible for a series of early Wednesday morning thefts from vehicles.
Mandan police received a report at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday that four young men were seen in the Bay Shore Bend SE area checking vehicle handles to see if they were unlocked. Several items later were reported stolen from some of the vehicles, including a pair of headphones and a phone charger.
While police were investigating, they saw a teen boy run across the street into an area of brush. That teen, a 15-year-old Bismarck boy, later was found hiding underneath a pile of branches.
Further investigation turned up another four boys suspected of involvement, Mandan Police Lt. Lori Flaten wrote in a prepared statement.
The case is listed as an active investigation, and Flaten reported charges were pending.
