A Bismarck man faces charges for allegedly firing a bullet through an apartment building in May.

Ethan Ryan Mayhew, 23, was charged Wednesday with Class C felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Class A misdemeanor reckless endangerment and Class B misdemeanor discharge of a firearm within city limits. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

A Bismarck man reported that he heard a loud noise while he was in bed in his apartment at 128 E. Indiana Ave. on May 22 at approximately 10:30 p.m., an affidavit from Bismarck Police Detective Scott Betz said. A bullet had gone through his front door and into his bedroom wall. At the time of the incident, police said the bullet went through a door, hit a bedroom wall, then the back of a dresser. The bullet was found inside the dresser.

Another man came out of a neighboring apartment, apologized and said it was an accident, Betz wrote.

Betz spoke to the man who lives in the apartment from which it appeared the bullet had come. The man said he went to change clothes, heard a loud bang and found Mayhew in the kitchen holding a handgun.

Betz wrote he has not been able to locate Mayhew, who was convicted of felony theft in April 2010.
