Flames and the intense heat from a fire engulfing the mobile home on the right peeled back the siding and insulation on the neighboring home to the left during a Wednesday morning fire near Thayer Avenue and 16th Street in Bismarck.

Bismarck fire officials have ruled the cause of a mobile home fire from Wednesday as accidental.

Fire Marshal Owen Fitzsimmons said the exact cause of the fire that originated under the deck of the home on the 1700 block of East Thayer Avenue around 8:15 a.m. Wednesday is not known.

"Without a witness to pinpoint what it was, all we have were the remains of what was burnt up," he said.

Wind spread the fire to the mobile's home west neighbor, damaging its exterior and spreading smoke to the inside, resident Jake Nies said.

After boarding up his home, Nies said he would live with friends and family for the time being.

His neighbor, a single man who lived in the home where the fire originated, was apparently on vacation at the time of the blaze, Nies said.

Wednesday's fire was the second mobile home fire reported in Bismarck this week. A three-person family was displaced from their home after a similar fire Monday.
