The Bismarck School Board on Monday took the next step in designing potential additions at Centennial and Grimsrud elementary schools by deciding to work with J2 Studio Architecture & Design and Architectural Concepts Inc.

The district is considering expanding these schools to alleviate overcrowding at Liberty Elementary School and to account for growth in the Promontory Point area.

Grimsrud, which has a building capacity of 268 students, would increase its capacity to 500 students. Centennial's current capacity would increase from 469 students to 625 students.

The school board has decided to hold off on making any changes to elementary schools after fall enrollment number came in lower than expected, and it will wait until this upcoming fall when enrollment numbers are finalized.

The board on Monday unanimously agreed to direct district administration to hire and negotiate a contract with J2 Studio Architecture & Design for an addition at Centennial and Architectural Concepts Inc. for Grimsrud.

A committee composed of one board member and administration interviewed six architects for the projects.
