A man has been charged with aggravated assault for allegedly beating another man unconscious in May.

Venancio Fragoza, 19, was charged Thursday with aggravated assault, a Class Cfelony. He also was charged with delivery of ecstasy, a Class Bfelony.

South CentralDistrict Judge Sonna Anderson set bond for Fragoza at $20,000 cash at the request of Burleigh County Assistant State's Attorney Lloyd Suhr.

"This is an extremely strong case against him," Suhr said, adding that Fragoza would be a flight risk and a "significant risk to the community."

According to police reports, a 26-year-old Bismarck man was found unconscious in a parking lot on the 2400 block of North Eighth Street around midnight on May 3. He was bleeding and unconscious.

Fragoza was charged for allegedly causing "multiple facial fractures" to the Bismarck man, according to the complaint filed Thursday. Suhr said in court that the victim had shoe prints on his face and had been moved from where the assault occurred.

Fragoza also was charged for allegedly delivering ecstasy on May 1.

Suhr said the two charges arise from "different instances," but the assault was investigated in conjunction with the drug investigation.

Fragoza was arrested on the charges Wednesday afternoon. He also had been wanted on a bench warrant for failing to complete 15 hours of community service in a minor in possession or consumption case from July.

Fragoza told Anderson he is unemployed and has no permanent residence. He said he has been living with a friend in Bismarck and has previously lived in Mandaree.
