A Bismarck man was cited for a DUI after he crashed his vehicle into a street light pole, knocked it over and rolled his car.

The incident occurred two minutes after midnight, Saturday morning at the North 4th St. and East Divide Ave. intersection.

The driver, 26-year-old Kurt Schreiner, was injured in the wreck and taken by ambulance to a Bismarck hospital.

The extent of Streiner's injuries was not known, but Lt. Dave Draovitch of the Bismarck Police said they were not life threatening. He had no passengers riding with him.

Schreiner's 2001 black Lexus RX 800 landed on the driver's side in a yard on the Northeast side of the street, two houses down from the intersection where the light pole was knocked down.

The pole fell to the side of the road and did not damage anything (other than the car) when it was knocked down.

Once on the scene, firefighter had to rip the roof of the vehicle open in order to extricate Schreiner.

Draovitch said the incident could have been a lot worse because no other cars were involved and no one else got hurt.

The intersection, on the northwest corner of the state Capitol grounds, is one of Bismarck's more traveled intersections. East Divide Ave. is an artery road.

The incident drew a few onlookers as people gathered to see the downed light pole and the rolled car being ripped open in the early hours of Saturday morning.

How fast Schreiner was traveling and exactly how his car struck the pole and then rolled was undetermined as of Saturday night. Draovitch said the incident is under investigation.

Other than the DUI, Draovitch said the State's Attorney's office may review the incident and file more charges.
