New census estimates show Bismarck is leading the way in population growth among North Dakota cities.

The Census Bureau report says Bismarck added 920 people over the year that ended July 1, 2007, to increase its population to 59,502. Fargo added 843 people for a total of 92,660.

The Census Bureau estimates Grand Forks' population at 51,740. That's up 70 from the previous year. City officials have long contended the Census Bureau undercounts the actual population of Grand Forks. They put it at more than 54,000.

Dickinson, Minot and Williston also grew. The Census Bureau estimates Minot added 18 people while Dickinson and Williston, which are benefiting from the state's oil development, added more than 200 people each.

The figures are on the state Data Center Web site.
