Two Bismarck men were arrested after a high-speed chase reached speeds in excess of 110 mph.
James Grause, 21, and Jordan Huwe, 20, were charged Monday with Class Amisdemeanor reckless endangerment, Class Bmisdemeanor fleeing or attempting to elude officers and Class Bmisdemeanor reckless driving.
South Central District Judge Robert Wefald set bond for both Grause and Huwe at $500 cash or surety.
Burleigh County Sheriff's Major Les Witkowski said a deputy doing stationary radar on Highway 1804 clocked two motorcycles going 110 mph on the highway near 93rd Street Southeast.
The deputy pursued the motorcycles, which began a 40-mile chase from the highway to the interstate, Witkowski said.
He did not know the exact route of the chase.
A North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper assisting on the pursuit clocked the motorcycles at one point going between 140 and 150 mph, Witkowski said.
The motorcycles got off the interstate in Menoken and continued on to 158th Street. They slowed and stopped when they reached a gravel road, Witkowski said.
Burleigh County Assistant State's Attorney Cynthia Feland suggested Wefald, who responded to the details of the incident by saying "Wow," set bond at $1,000 cash or surety. She said neither man has much in the way of criminal history, though Huwe appears to have a "propensity for speed." He has five prior speeding tickets, she said.
Huwe and Grause said they are in the North Dakota National Guard. Wefald did not restrict them to staying in North Dakota while the cases goes through the courts.
"If they go somewhere, maybe they won't come back," the judge said.
