Monday was moving day for the residents of the Mandan Care Center.
The 116 residents moved across town to the new Mandan Living Center. Family, friends and employees helped move the residents by the bus load.
"My daughter and grandson helped me move into my room," resident Conrad Landenberger said.
He has a view of a courtyard from his window, which is nice. The better view however, is out of the dining room where the countryside can be seen.
He has a private room, same as the rest of the residents. Previously, people shared rooms.
"I didn't think it would be this nice," Landenberger said.
The employees like the new building, too.
"I like the dining area," certified nursing assistant Diane Stork said. "All the rooms have a view."
She's enjoyed watching the residents move in and see the new space, she said.
Besides the view, Landenberger likes that his room has its own bathroom, he said. He already has a spot picked out in his room for his recliner.
Once the residents are out of the Mandan Care Center, the building will be refurbished, with new paint and flooring. The rooms also will be converted to single rooms. By February, Medcenter One will move residents from Golden Manor in Steele to the Mandan Care Center.
The Mandan Living Center will have 128 beds, most of which will be in private rooms. The new building cost $14 million. A group of rooms will share a dining room and common area, instead of one dining room and common room for the entire facility.
