FARGO (AP) - The director of North Dakota's only abortion clinic says it could set a record this year.
Tammi Kromenaker is the director of the Red River Women's Clinic in Fargo, which marked its 10th anniversary in July.
Kromenaker says the clinic performed a record 1,358 abortions in 2003 and 1,238 last year. She says the clinic is on track to set a record this year.
Kromenaker says the average is about 25 abortions a week. She says the increase is due in part to the fact that money for college health clinics was cut so students could not get subsidized birth control.
Abortion opponents began a 24-hour prayer vigil last week in front of the clinic. It has recruited volunteers to escort clients past protesters.
