Bismarck police are investigating the death of a Dickinson man who had been living in Bismarck.
Brian Eldon Cook, 49, was found dead on Monday at his apartment at 305 N. 23rd St.
According to a police release, an autopsy revealed that Cook had suffered from unexplained head injuries, and the cause of death is still under investigation.
Lt. Dan Donlin said Cook had blood on his face as a result of a head injury when he was found dead.
Police do not know what caused the injury. They are investigating the death to determine if there was foul play or if it was the result of an accident, Donlin said.
"They don't know if there was a physical altercation or if he had some sort of fall," he said.
According to the police release, Cook was known to walk or ride his bike to and from his apartment, and he worked in the area of State Street and Century Avenue. Police are not releasing where Cook worked, Donlin said.
According to an obituary printed in Wednesday's Bismarck Tribune, Cook was from Dickinson. Donlin said Cook's family in Dickinson has been informed about the investigation.
Cook had been living in an apartment complex called Horizons, which is owned by the Ruth Meiers Hospitality House, said Sue Martin, executive director of the Ruth Meiers House. Martin said Horizons is an efficiency apartment complex, not a homeless shelter.
"We are helping the police in their investigation in any way that we can," Martin said.
Police are looking for any information to help determine what caused Cook's death. Anyone who may have seen him or had contact with him from Aug. 1 through Monday is asked to call the Bismarck Police Department at 223-1212. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous can call 224-TIPS-8477.
