The local chapter of the AMVETS will host its Americanism Banquet this evening, and the public is invited to attend.

Thirty-two students from area schools and their teachers will be honored at the event, which begins with a social hour at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served half an hour later.

The students took part in the annual Americanism event, which has them write essays and draw pictures about what it means to be American.
