Valentine's Day is usually filled with decorations in pink and red, but not usually the type of red that the United Blood Services is concerned with.
On Thursday, Valentine's Day, there will be a blood drive at United Blood Services, 517 S. Seventh St. They will start drawing blood at 8 a.m. and end at 7 pm., including certain perks for the donors.
"Valentine's Day seemed to be the perfect day for the promotion," United Blood Services marketing and communications specialist Stacey Majkrzak said.
Each donor will have the opportunity to guess how long it will take for an ice sculpture to melt. The catch is that a Journey half-carat diamond pendant white gold necklace that retails for $855 is encased inside the ice sculpture.
The pendant was donated by Riddles Jewelry, and will be given to the donor with the closest melt time as a special Valentine's Day gift. Other giveaways and refreshments will be available for the donors.
"There will be a nice fun Valentine's Day atmosphere," Majkrzak said. "You can save a life and take home a beautiful diamond necklace at the same time."
