A Linton teenager has died from injuries sustained in a dirt bike collision.
The 13-year-old boy, whose name has not been released, died after crashing head-on with a dirt bike driven by a 16-year-old Linton boy, according to a release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The 16-year-old also was injured in the crash, which occurred at 4:32 p.m. Sunday, 12 miles east and two miles south of Linton.
The Highway Patrol press release said six teenage boys from Linton were riding motorcycles at the time of the crash. They were driving in the bottom of a ditch and jumping an approach to a field alongside County Road 15, which is a gravel road. The approach is at the top of a small hill, and it was not possible for the boys to see from one side of the approach to the other, the release said.
It said witnesses indicate that the two boys were trying to jump the approach at the same time from opposite directions. Neither boy was aware that the other was approaching. The motorcycles jumped at the same time and collided in mid-air. Both boys were wearing helmets.
The 16-year-old was transported to Bismarck for his injuries, the release said.
