A Garrison woman faces two felony charges and one misdemeanor charge for allegedly causing the death of the child she was carrying by overdosing on prescription drugs.

Michelle Geiser, 32, was charged Friday with Class Afelony endangerment of a child or vulnerable adult, Class Cfelony possession of a controlled substance and Class A misdemeanor ingestion of a controlled substance. All three offenses are alleged to have occurred on Sept. 24.

South Central District Judge David Reich set bond for Geiser at $10,000 cash, McLean County State's Attorney Ladd Erickson said. She remains in custody.

According to an affidavit from McLean County Sheriff's Deputy Sam Lincoln, the Garrison Ambulance Service was called to a Garrison home on Sept. 24 for a report of an unresponsive female. Ambulance personnel found pill bottles near Geiser, also known as Michelle Behles, who was semi-conscious. The bottles were for hydrocodene, locet and cyclobenazeprine, the affidavit said.

According to a complaint filed Oct. 5, Geiser is accused of possessing and ingesting those drugs, as well as tizanidine, without valid prescriptions.

Erickson said how Geiser obtained the drugs is still under investigation.

The affidavit said an ultrasound performed when Geiser arrived at Medcenter One showed the baby she was carrying had no heartbeat. Dr. William Massello, the state forensic examiner, performed an autopsy on the child and found that "the child would have been viable outside the mother's womb, however the baby would have needed assistance."

The affidavit said a doctor at Medcenter One found that Geiser had toxic levels of several drugs in her system, and the baby, which was more than 29 weeks along, did not survive the overdose.

According to the affidavit, Geiser has a criminal history related to illegal possession and acquisition of prescription drugs. It said she has served time in a Minnesota women's prison for attempting to obtain a prescription in Polk County, Minn. She also has convictions for possession of Valium and obtaining a controlled substance by fraud.

Erickson said the case was investigated by the Mercer-McLean County Narcotics Task Force, of which Lincoln is a case agent.
