Bismarck officials have asked residents of the city as well as nearby Lincoln and customers of the South Central Regional Water District not to water outdoors because of a pipe break.
City officials say the Bismarck water treatment plant has been shut down while the pipe is being repaired. They say the city's water supply will be strained unless people restrict their use.
The treatment plant is expected to be back in operation by afternoon. Officials say the water restrictions will allow time to refill the reservoirs.
