Students recently competed in regional MathCounts competitions. The program tests students' math knowledge.
The competition for the Burleigh-Morton region was Wednesday.
Horizon Middle School placed first for Burleigh County and Glen Ullin placed first for Morton County in the team round. Loren Anderson of Horizon Middle School and Austin Wanner of Glen Ullin placed first in individual competitions. They will move on to represent Burleigh and Morton counties in the state competition.
Other teams that placed at the regional competition were Wachter Middle School and New Salem Public School, which placed second; and Simle Middle School and Mandan Junior High, which placed third.
Other individuals to place at the competition were Katie Randazzo of St. Anne and Dominique Goettle, home-schooled, placed second; Lucas Andring of Horizon Middle School and Devin Coyle of Mandan Junior High placed third; and Brandon Berg of Wachter Middle School and Karen Schaaf of Glen Ullin Schools placed fourth.
The state MathCounts competition is March 10 in Bismarck. The North Dakota Society of Professional Engineers and the North Dakota Association of County Superintendents co-sponsor sending the top four individual winners and the coach of the top team to the Lockheed Martin National MathCounts competition May 8-11 in Denver.
