"This was our whole school's project," said Danielle. "We had a soldier's Christmas list we posted around the school," said Hannah. Both girls estimated over 1000 items were donated to the troops. Danielle's mother Denise Lowman is the Bismarck Family Support Coordinator for the North Dakota National Guard's 164th Unit and she said the next thing to do is sort and box the items for shipping. "The holidays are hard to be away so we're going the extra mile to support them," she said.

All five Bismarck veterans organizations will share in the annual observance of Veterans Day at 10 a.m. Sunday in the Russell Reid Auditorium of the Heritage Center.

There will be speakers, and honors will be presented with a rifle salute and the playing of taps.

The ceremony will end in time for the viewing of the sun shining through the opening in the All Veterans Memorial to illuminate North Dakota on the globe in the center of the memorial.

There also will be a ribbon- cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. Sunday for the exhibit "The Atomic Age Arrives: North Dakota and the Cold War."

The exhibit features photographs, maps, a model of a Minuteman III missile launch facility and uniforms of the airmen.

A reconstruction of a fallout shelter is located in the center of the exhibit. The reconstruction is similar to those built in the basements of North Dakota homes during the 1960s.
