The University of Mary has recieved a $10,000 grant to help women prevent heart disease
The grant is from the American Heart Association and the Dakota Medical Foundation for the Go Red for Women North Dakota program. The Go Red program is to raise awareness of heart disease in women. Grants will be used to help women lower their risk for heart disease.
"We're moving beyond awareness to the community offering resources," said Go Red North Dakota coordinator Amy Walters.
The community action grants awarded $85,000 to 20 communities. Organizations were awarded up to $10,000. The University of Mary recieved $10,000.
The university will invite 40 women to participate in a personalized exercise program and healthy lifestyle makeover.
Participants will be part of a research study at the university by Jill Neustad in exercise sciences.
Most of the community projects involve exercise and help with making lifestyle changes.
