Mary A. Kilen, 72, Mandan, passed away Aug. 26, 2017, at Elm Crest Manor, New Salem. Services were held Aug. 30 at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with Deacon Lance Gartner officiating. Burial was at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Mary was born March 26, 1945, to Lawrence and Goldie (Steider) Renner in Mandan. She was raised and educated in Almont. Mary married Tharen Kilen on Aug. 17, 1966, in Almont.
Mary enjoyed the many friends she made at work. She was an excellent baker and enjoyed working on crossword puzzles. Mary was talented at crochet and made many afghans for family and friends. She loved to garden and would can her bounty in large quantities and varieties. Mary also loved to fish on the Missouri River. She was very active in the community and was the President of Legion Auxiliary.
Mary will be deeply missed by her husband, Tharen; her daughter, Dawn Schumaier, Mandan; her son, Jim Kilen, Mandan; a son-in-law, Harold Stratton, Linton; a sister, Julie (Brad) Timpe, Bismarck; her brother, Daniel (Donna) Renner, Bismarck; her brother-in-law, Dean Bachler; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Cindy Stratton (2014); her sister, Kathy Bachler; and her brothers, Larry and Tommy.
